How to Choose the Correct Prosthetic Sock LengthUpdated 2 months ago

Choosing the right sock length often comes down to personal preference, but there are a few helpful guidelines to keep in mind.

Some prosthetic components may work best with a shorter sock that ends just above your prosthetic socket’s trimlines. Others—like underliner socks—are designed to be about 3 inches (7.6 cm) shorter than your liner to avoid disrupting suspension.

As a general rule, prosthetic socks should extend 2–3 inches (5–7.6 cm) above the middle of your kneecap.

To measure:
Start at the end of your residual limb and measure up to 2–3 inches (5–7.6 cm) past the center of your kneecap. This measurement will help you select a sock length that provides the right amount of coverage and support for your setup.

Pro Tip: Most people mistakenly order a 'Medium' length and later learn that medium is quite long. Measure your residual limb to ensure you receive the correct length because these socks can not be trimmed with a scissors.
